The house where painter Pietro Aldi was born in 1852 is opened to the public by the Aldi family at certain times of the year. The Aldi family itself are important figures in the history of the country: Antonio Aldi reported on Manciano in 1766 on behalf of the Lorraine and Olinto Aldi, the artist’s father, volunteered in the first War of Independence and participated in the battle of Curtatone. Pietro was not to be outdone by his ancestors, and became an important painter in Italians art history. His brother Aldo was an engineer who oversaw important projects in his own right, in particular the first plan of Manciano in 1886.
