Bagno Secco

On Via Mazzini there is a quadrangular structure, which in Roman times was a cement cistern used for collecting water and covered with earthenware. Legend says that this site was the source of the thermal waters, which the great knight Orlando diverted. He noticed that as many of his enemies as he was able to kill, even more were being resuscitated; an old man told him that within the walls of the city was a fountain that could treat the wounded and resurrect the dead. Orlando then cursed the source: “O water that heals stalk and mange, come down in the valley of Saturnia”; the water obeyed him, gushing out of the walls.
